World Book Day

Diamond Class celebrated World Book Day by learning dance and drama techniques to explore the book ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl. Some pupils shared their favourite book with the class giving recommendations for why others would love to read it. The class also learned how to write a story in either 25 words or 25 sentences. The stories were very impressive.

A Visit from the Mayor

On Friday the 25th February, the Mayor of Great Yarmouth came to our school! He talked to Emerald Class, Diamond Class and the nursery. He talked to us about how we will be the generation that changes the future and how adults should therefore look after us.

He also asked if anyone thought there were any issues that needed sorting out. One issue was litter, and the mayor explained he has a team who he calls when there is a place with lots of litter, who then clean it up. Another thing he talked about was how that when our parents receive their taxes, they are annoyed or unhappy, but those taxes pay for things like Great Yarmouth market and doing up the waterways.

The mayor explained about hoe his chain was real gold and there was a coin on the chain which had a lot of history; he even let one of us wear his chain and hat!

Just before he went into the nursery, he invited Diamond Class to come to the town hall and have a debate over a subject to get idea of how decisions are made.

English Expedition Story

Year 4, 5 and 6 learned the features of an adventure story and then wrote one inspired by their ‘expedition’ to Lake Mono. The volcano erupted whilst they were there! Read their stories to see what happened.

The pupils read their stories aloud to the class learning to use expression to convey the drama of the story. We all enjoyed listening to them. They were very dramatic.

What God means to me

We learned about how God is mentioned in the bible and what God means to us. We painted a picture to represent our thoughts about him.

Networks

In computing, we learned about the connections we have with other people and how these may be linked to others, creating a social network. We then applied this knowledge to learn how a computer network passes messages and the equipment that is used in the process.

Reading an Ordinance Survey map

We use an Ordinance Survey map to learn about Snowdonia. We learned how to use a key to find the features of the area and we learned how to read 4 figure and 6 figure grid references.
